Description
Throughout history, pediments covering the forehead and nose area have been made to protect the heads of horses in wars. In addition, it was used as a splendor-enhancing element in horses in state ceremonies and military ceremonies. In European museums, there are many military equipment of Anatolian origin captured from sieges and wars. Especially the Vienna Military History Museum draws attention as it contains the most Ottoman artifacts.
The Sefer Pediment was inspired by a tombak horse pediment dating back to the 17th century. The patterns on the horse pediment were inspired by the 16th century Ottoman tombak horse pediment exhibited at the Los Angeles Art Museum, and the hatai and floral decorations of the horse pediment at the Hermitage Museum in Russia.
