Description
The Gypsy girl/Gaia mosaic found in the ancient city of Zeugma is used on Gaia’s Box. This mosaic, dated to the 2nd century AD, has become the symbol of Zeugma and is called the Gypsy girl mosaic. However, some sources suggest that this figure is Gaia, the god of earth. Gaia is accepted as the first element in mythology from which the descendants of gods emerged. The Gypsy Girl Mosaic is exhibited in Gaziantep Museum today. Zeugma ancient city, BC. It was founded by Seleukos King I. Seleukos Nikator in 300 BC, and the city came under Roman rule in the 1st century AD and was named “Zeugma” meaning “bridge”, “gateway”.
In the mosaics in Zeugma; In addition to the mythological subjects of the ancient period, the subjects of sanctifying the Euphrates river, which spreads abundance and fertility around it, were also discussed. Thus, the depictions of love, sanctity and worship reflected on the mosaics related to the Euphrates river have survived two thousand years ago.
